American Megatrends Cpu Over Temperature Error ? Cpu Over Temperature Error (Easy Fix Hopefully

My computer will shut off or crash without BSOD and boot into the bios saying “CPU over temperature error”. Ι hit F1 to go into BIOS and it shows α temp of 60 ₵. Previously, when Ι first built the máy tính, Ι had applied too little thermal compound and was getting 88 ₵ temps but with it reapplied twice now in the bios the bộ xử lý just sits around 60 ₵ or if Ι had just been gaming it sits around 68 ₵. The bộ xử lý is never under more than 60% load and this keeps happening.

You watching: American megatrends cpu over temperature error

OS: Windows 10 64bit

bộ xử lý: 7700k w/ Arctic Silver using ASUS TPU II goes up to 4.8-4.9ghz

Cooler: Corsair H100i v2

Bộ nhớ đệm: HyperX Predator DDR4 3200MHz

GPU: ASUS GTX 1080 STRIX

PSU: Corsair AX760

You may have damaged your bộ xử lý, but someone else may be able to tell you otherwise

it runs for hours on end but then sometimes crashes seemingly at random.

Download HWinfo and have it open at khởi ngiệp and make sure the logs are running. Then when it happens again, see if there is anything weird!

See how close you are getting to your TJ max temperature

Are you overclocked? If so what are your settings?

Also remove the overclock and see if issue still occurs

Your Core 2 distance to TJ max is only 4″C (the same core that says max 96″₵). Hence if your core 2 rises 4″C I assume that”s your issue

so is my bộ xử lý busted or should ι just remove the overclock?

4.8V? if thats the case your near insta death!

Turn off your máy tính now and change the BIOS settings. You probably have AUTO voltage set, which always applies way to much voltage. Watch an overclocking video and read some guides to work out how to do it properly.

There are NO shortcuts when it comes to overclocking, it just takes time. ONLY change one thing at α time when overclocking then you can determine what the cause of the problem is.

Sorry I didn”t read your bài viết properly. Ι thought you said 1.48!

You should still go and do some research as the problem is with the Tự động overclock.

I turned off everything and was just looking at HWinfo and if I just open/close chrome it shoots all cores to around 90 C temporarily then they go back down. Is that normal?

No that is not normal at all. What CPU do you have? Go to your BIOS and set the CPU to the box clock speed (i.e. I have a 6700k so I”{d} Set it to 4GHz) then set the voltage to around 1.35V (Manual) and see if it still happens.

7700k just set it to 4.2GHz and voltage is at 1.2V. I”ll run it at this all day and see if it happens. Thanks for your help!

My guess is that the heatsink is not placed correctly. You need equal pressure all around the cpu, as the heat is spread with the metal from the heatsink touching the cpu, and then air is coolin the metal of the heatsink, and so on….

See more: Error 183 ” Failed To Create Dump File ” Or “Failed In Encoding

If you see 60c in the bios, it is 100% sure the heatsink is not correctly placed. Also the fact that your computer shut down and gives you that error message, it means your bộ xử lý is over heating and then ur computer prevents damage. Take off the heatsink, wash the thermal paste with alchool, dry, then re-apply thermal paste, replace heatsink correctly. theres video on youtube on how to do this, also you can search with ur heatsink model

Normally, you should see something around 30c in your bios.

It is either : heatsink not placed correctly, thermal paste wrongly applyd, something like that this is what Ι think at first, verify this.

Sorry for bad english and syntax

just saw this bài viết as Ι reattached my heatsink.

the problem was the H100i v2 mounting system was so shit that in order to tighten the standoffs for the heatsink to the proper tightness Ι had to use α wrench…..

temps looking α lot better now, thanks for the help!
